Classical chest of drawers

This elegant classicist chest of drawers from southern Germany, made around 1790, combines harmonious proportions with artistic inlay work. The two-drawer body stands on high, slender legs and is covered with fine ash veneer on a softwood body. The filigree band inlays made of maple and ebony add a special touch of sophistication, giving the piece of furniture a noble and symmetrical look.

Exquisite craftsmanship

The top plate of the classicist chest of drawers and the drawers are artfully inlaid with fine fillet inlays and underline the exquisite craftsmanship of the time. The ebonized diamond-shaped key plates set stylish accents and round off the elegant appearance. A masterpiece of classicism that exudes timeless elegance with its clear design language and fine details.

Classicism

Beyond the designation of the era, the term classicism is also used for Renaissance buildings that are more oriented towards ancient Greece than the Roman Empire. An example of a distinctly classicist Renaissance building in Germany is the facade of the Augsburg town hall.

Classicism spread globally from Europe and is still used today in reference to the classicist era as a universally fitting and harmonious classical architectural language.

A variant from the Biedermeier period is this Biedermeier cherrywood chest of drawers.
