Art Nouveau table lamp

The Art Nouveau table lamp, signed „Daum Nancy,“ is an exceptional work of art from France around 1900. It combines masterful craftsmanship with the elegant formal language of Art Nouveau and impresses with its exquisite choice of materials and delicate design.

The lampshade is made of „Pâte de Verre,“ an elaborate glass technique particularly associated with the Daum Nancy manufactory. This technique enables finely nuanced color gradients and a slightly translucent surface that diffuses the light in an atmospheric way. The artistic craftsmanship lends the lamp a unique vibrancy and depth.

The hexagonal base, made of solid brass, is varnished and polished, giving it a shiny, protective surface. The detailed decorations with floral motifs and the fluted shaft underscore the organic style of Art Nouveau and create a harmonious connection between nature and art.

The Compagnie Francaise du Cristal Daum is a crystal glass factory founded in 1878 by the Daum brothers in Nancy, Lorraine, in what is now Grand Est.

The workshops of the Daum brothers, Auguste (1853-1909) and Antonin (1864-1930), also employed some of the great Art Nouveau artists, such as Jacques Grüber, Henri Bergé, Almaric Walter, and Charles and Ernest Schneider.

Another work of art in a lamp is this museum-worthy ceiling lamp by Georges Leleu.
